Doorstep Green Play Park is officially opened by the Mayor of Newquay
The Treloggan area of Newquay finally has a welcoming, colourful, and safe space for children to play.
Doorstep Green Play Park was officially opened to the public on Wednesday 21 July 2021 by the Mayor of Newquay, Cllr Louis Gardner.
Representatives from Treloggan Residents Association and Newquay Town Council were also in attendance, along with many residents and their children from the Treloggan area of Newquay.
After making a speech detailing all of the hard work that has gone into the project, in particular by Treloggan Residents Association who have been championing for the project to go ahead for several years and by members of Newquay Town Council, Cllr Louis Gardner cut the red ribbon to open the park. The local children were then welcomed in to play.
Door Step Green play park features:
- An exciting main feature multi-play tower.
- Swing sets including swings, a baby swing, an inclusive basket swing and a swing for children with disabilities.
- Climbing opportunities.
- Traditional/retro equipment such as roundabouts & seesaws.
- Themed pieces of equipment relevant to Treloggan and Newquay (the area is alongside the old railway and adjacent to a community pond area as well as Newquay being a key coastal and surfing resort).
- Coloured rubber surfacing and playground games and graphics such as hopscotch.
The Park will be managed by Newquay Town Council’s Environment Service, whilst the majority of the area of Doorstep Green will still be managed by Cormac. If you have any issues with the park, please contact Newquay Town Council on (01637) 878388 or email: email@example.com.
No dogs are allowed inside the play park area and users are encouraged to clear up after themselves and discard their litter in the bins provided.
Emma York, Chairperson of Treloggan Residents Association commented: “This is a momentous occasion for the area of Treloggan and has been a very long time coming.
Treloggan Residents Association has worked tirelessly on this project. The Park was designed by children for children to make sure the park caters for children of all abilities and disabilities and is the first of its kind in Newquay.
I would like to thank all the members of the association and Councillor’s past and present that have been involved for their hard work and dedication in achieving the end result.
Our thoughts and prayers are also with Nigel Dawes our treasurer who sadly never got to see the finished result but would have been immensely proud of what we have achieved.”
Cllr Olly Monk commented: “I am delighted that the Playpark at Doorstep Green has been completed. This project has been over 6 years in the making and has faced significant issues. Due to the hard work of the Treloggan Residents association and the determination of the Town Council to deliver the park we now have one of the best playgrounds in the area.
“Working with Treloggan Residents association and getting to know its members has been one of the highlights of my career so far. It would be amiss of me not to congratulate every single member past and present on this achievement.”
Cllr Louis Gardner, Mayor of Newquay, commented: “It has been a long road to get to this point. This is the first playpark that the Town Council has delivered, and this is now the best looking, best equipped play park in town. It is testament to what can be achieved when projects are conducted and managed at a local level and in partnership with local residents.”
