A Message From the Mayor of Newquay
“It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of Prince Phillip, a man I had the pleasure of meeting on no fewer than 5 occasions, the first as a boy of 14 and most lately when I sat next to him at a lunch in Manchester in 2014, both of us in naval uniform.
On a personal note, Phillip was a Royal Naval Officer, a profession which he always said was his calling in life. As a former Naval Officer I could always relate to this remark, as did all of the Royal Navy.
Many in Newquay will have their own personal memories of His Royal Highness and it is at this time that we remember those, as our thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty the Queen and all of the Royal Family at this saddest of times.”
